Chapter 1016 - 1015: Qingcheng, An Unexpected Person

Chapter 1016 - 1015: Qingcheng, An Unexpected Person

At this point, Gu Anxi felt a bit awkward, stammering for a while before she lightly coughed: "A friend."Secretary Tang chuckled softly: "If I remember correctly, Gu Mingzhu is getting married tomorrow."

Gu Anxi glared at her.

Secretary Tang wasn’t afraid of her, smiling brightly: "Need me to book a wedding gift for you?"

Gu Anxi, a bit proud: "I didn’t say it was her. Besides, I don’t want to send one."

Secretary Tang checked the time: "It’s already five o’clock, and soon I’ll be off duty. You might not have a diligent secretary to use."

Gu Anxi gave her another look, seemingly reluctant: "Alright then, what should I send?"

Jewelry is too tacky, ornaments too troublesome, clothes and shoes seem too girly; after thinking it over, she turned to Secretary Tang, "Find out which hotel they’re at, and order 999 champagne rose fireworks. Set them off at nine tonight."

Secretary Tang laughed upon hearing it: "That’s quite romantic. Okay, I’ll handle it."

Gu Anxi stopped her: "Don’t say it’s from me."

Secretary Tang smiled briefly and went out to prepare the gift. This gift seemed inconspicuous but was not easy to handle, especially in a small town like Jiangcheng Qingcheng; it would probably have to be flown in from Beicheng.

Quite the splurge.

Gu Anxi stayed in the office, played on her phone for a while, and called Bo Xichen: "Uncle, are you off work yet?"

On the other side, Bo Xichen held the phone with one hand and was typing with the other, speaking in a low voice: "It’ll probably be very late. There’s some data that must be finished today."

She responded: "Then I’ll head home first."

He nodded: "Drive carefully."

Gu Anxi hung up the phone, held her phone thoughtfully for a moment, and then called the aunt at home: "Aunt, I won’t be coming back for dinner."

Aunt complained: "One by one, none of you are coming back for dinner. I’ve prepared your favorite dishes."

"I’ll come back and eat later," Gu Anxi reassured her before hanging up.

She then opened the door and went downstairs.

Colleagues leaving work called her Little Gu as they saw her; some were afraid of her. Gu Anxi casually acknowledged them and got into her car. She turned on the navigation, planning to visit Qingcheng.

Partly to check on Aunt Chen, and partly to see how Gu Mingzhu is doing now.

Her car had just started when another car slowly pulled up near Wang’s entrance and then immediately followed hers.

It was none other than Lu Heng. He came wanting to discuss collaboration, but upon arrival, he saw her driving away and followed her onto the highway. He was somewhat surprised by the direction.

She was headed to Qingcheng.

Lu Heng had investigated her past, so he knew where she was going.

Gu Mingzhu and Qin Siyuan are getting married; is she going to attend the wedding?

But it doesn’t seem like it, because if it were, she should go with Bo Xichen. Now she’s alone; is she still hung up on Qin Siyuan?

Just the thought made Lu Heng uncomfortable. Why, why can it be anyone but him?

He followed discreetly, and Gu Anxi was unaware.

From Jiangcheng to Qingcheng, it takes about three hours to drive, with a speed of around 120. However, Gu Anxi drove at 150 on the highway, reaching Qingcheng in a little over two hours.

By now, it’s Qingcheng’s evening; the sunset had already faded, leaving only a small patch of red clouds in the sky. Her car stopped at Qingcheng’s largest hotel entrance, guessing that Gu Mingzhu might be staying here.

Having just stopped, a welcoming valet approached, opened her car door, and upon seeing Gu Anxi’s face, hesitated briefly before returning to a professional smile: "Miss, are you dining or need a room?"

Gu Anxi remained seated in the car, feeling a bit awkward: "I’m waiting for someone."

The valet was visibly disappointed but still courteously said: "Sorry to disturb you."

Closed the car door for her.

Gu Anxi sat in the car, checked the time, and looked at the hotel. Just as she prepared to dial a number, a group of about seven or eight people walked out of the hotel.

She recognized them all.

Gu Yuanshan, Gu Changqing, Aunt Gu Ning, and several other Gu family members. Gu Mingzhu was there too; the group seemed to be heading out, likely dining with the Qin family.

Gu Anxi silently watched from the car, then saw Qin Siyuan and Qin Siling join them. The group conversed for a while before heading to a private restaurant across the street.

The phone she held was put down, no longer dialed.

Showing up would be inappropriate; she’d draw attention, as she is a controversial figure.

She understood Gu Mingzhu’s situation—already quite delicate.

After a while, she dialed Min Xin; Min Xin answered, feeling a mix of emotions. He was serving his wife, who was about to give birth, all fine, when suddenly the little devil’s call came through.

Min Xin sighed obediently: "You must be asking about Mingzhu’s wedding. I really can’t attend, it’s inconvenient, but I’ve sent a monetary gift."

He asked Gu Changqing to take it over, as a token of appreciation. He knew he was being unfair to the kid, but to be honest, there weren’t many feelings involved, and he didn’t want to hurt Zhou Yu anymore because of it.

Gu Anxi snorted lightly, stretching out her long legs casually, "How much did you send?"

Minxin reported a number and laughed bitterly, "Like this, alright?"

Gu Anxi felt quite satisfied and hung up. On the other side, Minxin frowned, "This kid is really realistic; I haven’t even asked where she is now."

Gu Anxi hung up the phone and was just about to start the car to head to the hospital when the car door opened.

She looked up, "I’m about to drive off." She thought it was someone from the hotel.

But as she looked up, it wasn’t anyone else — it was Lu Heng.

She put her hand down and smiled indifferently, "Dr. Lu, did you follow me all the way to Qingcheng?"

Lu Heng didn’t deny it, speaking in a steady voice, "I came to discuss the factory equipment."

Gu Anxi lazily spoke, "It’s off-hours now; I don’t talk business."

She reached out to close the car door, but Lu Heng blocked it with his hand. She slammed the door shut forcefully, almost crushing Lu Heng’s hand. His face turned completely dark, and his voice was hoarse and unbearable, "Are you always this violent?"

"Depends on the person and the situation," Gu Anxi said a bit irritatedly, "Move your hand."

Instead of withdrawing, Lu Heng opened the back door and directly sat in her car, "Accompany me to the hospital."

She turned her head to look back, "Don’t overdo it."

"I’m fractured," Lu Heng said in a very calm voice.

Gu Anxi inspected him, noticing beads of sweat on his forehead. She coughed lightly, "I’ll pay for your medical expenses."

Her tone was devoid of any guilt, incredibly calm.

Lu Heng was infuriated.

Gu Anxi drove towards Yunxi Hospital, and after a while, Lu Heng asked softly, "Unwilling, so you secretly came to see your first love’s wedding?"

"I’m not as sentimental as you are," Gu Anxi replied lazily, "Once they don’t like me, I won’t like them anymore."

Right, if he doesn’t like me, why should I like him?

Lu Heng turned his handsome face slightly, his voice cold as ice, "Otherwise, why are there so many unrequited loves in the world."

"Don’t make it sound so nice; it’s just acting on impulse," Gu Anxi knew what he was talking about, "Would you fall in love at first sight with a 150-pound fatty?"

Lu Heng was angered again, he wouldn’t.

Gu Anxi spoke to herself, "Exactly, so if you want to find a pretty girl, you better spend money on it, saying nice things is just a BP."

Lu Heng could no longer hold back: "How did Bo Xichen fall for someone like you?"

"Oh," Gu Anxi smiled slyly, "We just dragged each other back home."

She felt this was true. Their relationship didn’t involve much struggle or melodrama; they just found each other agreeable and got together. Of course, like she said, most of it was acting on impulse. If her uncle wasn’t good-looking, she wouldn’t like him either.

Lu Heng didn’t want to talk anymore: superficial!

He remained silent, and Gu Anxi was even lazier to speak with him. She drove to Yunxi Hospital and got him an emergency appointment; naturally, the hospital staff knew her well, and a director had already called Professor Bo.

Professor Bo, there’s trouble in your backyard; your beloved disciple brought a man to the hospital.

Over there, Bo Xichen had just finished surgery and was a bit surprised to receive this call.

Anxi was in Qingcheng, and with a man no less, injuring someone?

Thinking it over, only one person came to mind — Lu Heng.

So he dialed the phone, while Gu Anxi was right in her old lodging at the lab building. Ning Qi had been cleaning it regularly, so it was very clean. When his call came through, she was resting on the sofa, having ordered takeout.

She answered softly, "Uncle, you’re back."

He responded with a hum, "You’re in Qingcheng?"

Gu Anxi immediately guessed he knew and didn’t lie, "I wanted to come over and look around. I ran into Lu Heng; broke his hand — I’ll head back after visiting Aunt Chen."

Bo Xichen spoke hoarsely, "I’ll take the private jet over in a bit; we’ll stay two nights in Qingcheng."

She was a bit surprised, whispering, "Uncle, you have time?"

He pondered for a moment and then chuckled slightly, "Just call it an early honeymoon, maybe?"

She bristled instantly, "Who has a one-day honeymoon!"

He just laughed, finishing off while driving to the airport.

Gu Anxi hung up, chuckling as her eyes landed on the desk opposite her, then her face turned red.

Her gaze fell on the spot where a Jade Ruyi used to sit; thinking about it now made her feel a bit embarrassed. She touched her face, just about to stand up when Lu Heng walked in from outside, looking grim, with his hand wrapped in white gauze, quite noticeable.
