Chapter 278: Lore of Dead Redemption
Chapter 278: Lore of Dead Redemption
"You’re hanging around quite dangerous people."
Fang Raon noted.
"Kerr is not even the most dangerous person within Dead Redemption. That title belongs to a different person."
Raizen said with a chuckle.
"...More dangerous than a real killer?"
Fang Raon said with a total surprise.
The more he learned about Dead Redemption, the more he realized that they weren’t exactly a normal group.
They all seemed unhinged!
"You wanted to learn more about Dead Redemption, didn’t you? Well, next in the line... I might as well tell you something about Rook.
"Rook Rose is a member of the Rose Family. I know you know that family really well. Rock actually didn’t want to teach Rook at first."
Raizen said.
"Why?"
Fang Raon asked.
"Family drama. I am not that interested in all that. Rock trained Rook harshly. As if there was some hatred going on in there.
"I guess the fact that Rook hates Della, and since Rock loves that granddaughter of his, their ideologies clash quite hard there.
"But that harsh training has made Rook quite hard to deal with. Even to this day, Rook pushes himself during training to the brink of collapse.
"And fighting him is a total pain in the ass. That guy does not want to lose, even during sparing, and he does literally everything in his power to come out on top.
"Even if he has to fight dirty."
Raizen said.
"Sounds like a lovely dude."
Fang Raon wryly smiled.
He had heard stuff about Rook from Della and knew that he was a total piece of shit. A jealous and bitter man.
"Next—Rasmus Seider—since you watched the stream, you already know that he caused some trouble for us over on the 56th floor.
"That guy is just a troublemaker.
"Before he joined Dead Redemption, he was leader of Blood Cult—a cult of players that prayed for the Blood God.
"He is the first-ever player in the history of Black Online that has gotten a one-year ban from entering any cities in the tower.
"It happened because he thought it was a brilliant idea to kidnap a hundred locals and then kill them as sacrifices for the Blood God.
"That didn’t work, so he also decided to kill all his followers in the Blood Cult, and that didn’t work either.
"Eventually, that earned him a one-year ban because he did all that inside the Safe Zone, so for that year, he lurked outside the Safe Zone, killing just about everyone that dared to go outside.
"That happened in the 18th floor. He became known as the Infamous Killer. And since the tower of the boss was outside the Safe Zone, for about four months that he was there, nobody was able to clear the 18th floor.
"Nobody.
"All because Rasmus was there to kill everyone who dared. It didn’t matter if he had to fight a party of a full ten people. He still was able to kill them all.
"Some players didn’t even see him before they died. He is Ranger, after all, and could kill from long distances away."
Raizen said.
"How did he join Dead Redemption then?"
Fang Raon asked.
"We, the Dead Redemption, were starting to make a name for ourselves. We just reached the 30th floor as the 3rd guild ever, just a few floors behind the top guild—Grimson Dawn.
"We already had ten people in the guild, but Leon was very displeased with one of the members back then. That guy’s name was Shane Scuf.
"Shane also learned under Rock and was one of the most skilled Assassins at the time. Grimson Dawn also tried to recruit him.
"Leon wasn’t confident about Shane’s loyalty toward Dead Redemption. He always joked around about joining Grimson Dawn instead if he didn’t get that item he wanted, et cetera.
"Shane also didn’t respect Leon’s position as the leader. Around that time, Leon still wasn’t known as the strongest.
"Grimson Dawn’s guild leader was the strongest person of that time, but Leon was quickly catching up to him."
Raizen said.
It all sounded very interesting, which was why Fang Raon was listening with all of his attention, and the smuggler was also listening.
"One day, Shane and Leon had a massive argument. Shane thought of himself as untouchable because of how strong he was.
"Leon wanted to show to all of us that nobody was irreplaceable. He had heard about this one guy in the 18th floor—the Infamous Killer—who was supposedly so strong.
"In complete secrecy, Leon went to meet with Rasmus. And I heard this part from Rasmus, and apparently they dueled.
"The duel, while Rasmus didn’t say who won, I had a pretty good guess. Leon must’ve won, because after that, Rasmus was Leon’s little puppy, following him around like a lost puppy, begging for scraps of attention.
"Leon, amazed by Rasmus’s strength, invited him to join Dead Redemption, and he accepted, of course.
"Then, out of nowhere, Leon brought all of us down to the 18th floor, where he introduced us to Rasmus and said that he’ll be joining Dead Redemption.
"We were surprised and confused.
"Since the dawn of Dead Redemption, Leon has always told us that there will only be ten members, and Leon planned to stay true to that.
"So, he said to us that Rasmus will replace one of us. Leon chose Shane to be replaced.
"Humiliated and angered, Shane tried attacking Leon, but Rasmus stopped Shane before any harm was done.
"Shane then challenged Rasmus to the fight to the death, and of course, that lunatic Rasmus accepted with a smile on his face.
"That day... Shane was crushed, both physically and emotionally. I heard that after that defeat, Shane was sent to a psychiatric hospital, where he is still probably sucking on straws and being spoon-fed mushy peas."
Raizen said.
"That’s... crazy."
Fang Raon said.
He was actually defeated so badly that he was sent to a psychiatric hospital with his whole life ruined.
"That incident had big impacts on the future of Dead Redemption, and the tower. Rasmus made quick work of the floors and joined us on the 30th floor.
"At that time, we got left even further behind Grimson Dawn because we wanted to wait for Rasmus to join us.
"But once he joined us on the 30th floor, we destroyed the floors in record time, and in just a month’s time, we passed Grimson Dawn around the 38th floor.
"Ever since then, we’ve always been ahead of them. First Clear after First Clear. Rasmus made us much stronger than Shane ever did."
Raizen said.
Fang Raon nodded and thought that Rasmus was quite awesome, but then again remembered that he was supposedly only the 9th strongest member in Dead Redemption.
"Then... I guess I can talk about Xiao Yue."
Raizen said.
However, before he could say anything, the smuggler suddenly knocked on the back wall and whispered, "Guards!"
It was still loud enough for them to hear, and they quickly peeked outside the window and saw that there was a security check ahead.
Four guards were stationed.
Without further ado, Raizen and Raon climbed inside the crates and covered themselves with the blankets and clothes.
The smuggler pulled on the reins and made the wagon come to a slow stop in front of the security check.
"Who is you, and where are you headed?"
An alcohol-breathed guard asked.
"The 29th floor. I am selling the 7th floor’s specialties over there. These blankets and clothes are in high demand over there..."
The smuggler said.
In that moment, one of the guards opened the flaps and took a good look at the back of the wagon.
Crates after crates. Brimming with blankets and clothes. Just like the smuggler had just said seconds prior.
"29th floor... That’s Player Territory, is it not? Are you sure these sell well? They’re only caring about weapons and scrolls that’ll help them kill better."
The alcohol-breathed guard asked.
"It’s not really my business to ask the players what they do with my wares. I just sell them. Sure, I exaggerate a bit to make the sales, but that’s it.
"It seems to work!"
The smuggler said with an awkward smile.
"Really? Well then, exaggerate for me."
The alcohol-breathed guard asked.
"Uhh, excuse me?"
The smuggler asked with a puzzled look.
"Try to sell these blankets to me. Exaggerate like you do with the players. Show me how you manage to fool these players."
The alcohol-breathed guard said with a smile.
Meanwhile, the other guards were just walking around the wagon, and at that moment, one of the guards climbed inside the wagon.
The guard, with the baton in hand, knocked it against the crate and then started removing a few blankets and clothes from the top.
To just take a good look inside.
Inside, there were just more of the same—blankets and clothes. Then, the guard looked further at the back.
At the far back of the wagon, there were two more crates, overflowing with blankets and clothes just like this one.
"Hmm..."
Meanwhile, at the outside, the smuggler let out an awkward laugh, thinking that the alcohol-breathed guard was joking.
"Well? Are you going to do it or not?"
The guard asked.
It didn’t seem like a joke anymore, and the smuggler’s smile froze, and then he awkwardly smiled and cleared his throat.
"These blankets are made of the finest silk, extracted straight from the Desert Worms of the deadly Sand Dunes of Scholzar..."
